Yadav Ghimirey

Conservation Biologist

I am a wildlife biologist studying felids and their prey species in the mid-hills and high Himalayas (Home to nine of the 12 felid species) of Nepal since 2008. I am affiliated with Friends of Nature, an NGO that is at the forefront of wildlife research and conservation in the country.

I started my research in 2008. I have looked at the distribution of carnivores in Nepal until now by collecting occurrence records from my own surveys, other studies and direct observations by other people. My actual interest lies in studying interactions and intra-guild predation among wild felids like common leopard, clouded leopard, golden cat, leopard cat and marbled cat in the mid-hills of Nepal. However more recently I have developed an interest to look at which areas in the mid-hills  these species occupy, how do they use the severely fragmented forested habitat and how do they interact spatio-temporally with other sympatric carnivores, both small and big. I also work with ethology and status assessment of other species like the snow leopard, grey wolf, small carnivores and owls.
